Officer Saved By Dog After Lightning Strikes Home Receives Aid From Foundation

September 26th, 2022

Police Officer Save by Dog

The Gary Sinise Foundation recently provided assistance to Florida police officer Josh Rotarius and his service dog Null by donating $5,000 to his home rebuild expenses and another $1,000 to Null’s veterinary bills. Back in July, Officer Rotarius’ home was struck by lightning during the night, and his amazing dog Null fortunately woke him up, alerting him of the danger. Luckily, they were both able to escape, but the home was a total loss.

Rotarius' Maitland, Florida community also stepped up by hosting a Family Bingo Night on September 16 to raise money for this home rebuild. A board member of the Gary Sinise Foundation Florida Chapter, Chief Pete Gauntlett, a retired police chief from the area also attended the event, and in addition to the GSF donation and the funds raised at the event, a local donor was gracious enough to match our $5,000 donation!

Officer Rotarius, Null, and the entire Maitland community are eternally grateful for the Foundation and our donation to help a local hero.
